Swag is a Noongar Yamatji man born in Merredin in Ballardong country (part of south Western Australia). Although born in Ballardong country Swag spent most of his life in Whadjuk country. At age of sixteen Swag was tutored in painting by artists from the world famous Carrolup Group. The style of art made famous by the schoolboy artists at Carrolup Mission. These artists developed a unique style of expression usually the scenes of hunting, landscapes, depicting the memories of traditional cultural activities in the south-west. They had a major influence on many generations of Indigenous artists. Swag's totem is Kingfisher bird.
